ADL_Logo_Featured_Pic_200x126The 2013 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) was held in Orlando Dec. 2-5. ADL’s Next Generation Learner team presented several sessions about transmedia learning techniques that use a storytelling approach to deliver rich, evolving content via diverse media. Team Lead Dr. Elaine Raybourn provided a tutorial on Transmedia Learning for Military Training and Education. She also presented a paper on the topic and participated in a panel that was moderated by Mr. Frank DiGiovanni, Director of Training Readiness & Strategy, DASD (Readiness). The panelists discussed how transmedia learning techniques could help to empower an agile force.

Next Gen Learner team co-lead Dr. Shane Gallagher and team member Shenan Prestwich discussed the results of their studies on Analyzing the Cognition of Gameplay & Game Design. Dr. Raybourn’s Imaginarium team shared their findings about Next Generation Learner Interactions with Personal Assistants for Learning (PAL).

ADL’s Technical Team was on hand for I/ITSEC’s Innovation Showcase where they demonstrated the Experience API (xAPI), the Learning Record Store and the Virtual World Sandbox as example projects supporting the Training & Learning Architecture. Team member Rob Chadwick also delivered a presentation on the Virtual World Framework.

I/ITSEC 2013 was an amazing event for ADL. There was so much to see and learn, and we certainly enjoyed the professional exchanges with so many folks in the community.
