Building the Future Learning Ecosystem

The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative is a DoD research and development organization working to modernize distributed learning for DoD. With offices in Orlando and Alexandria, Virginia, the ADL Initiative’s work focuses on enabling interoperability among education and training systems and creating a data-centered framework to better prepare our service members in the future. Designated Stakeholder Representatives from DoD and other US agencies, NATO, and allied partners work closely with the ADL Initiative.

Within the office of the Under Secretary of Defense (USD), Personnel and Readiness (P&R), the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative is a government program reporting to the Defense Human Resources Activity (DHRA), under the Director, DHRA.

The ADL Initiative is developing and accelerating DoD’s adoption of new learning technologies, standards and policies, to increase readiness and reduce costs for education and training. Bridging across DoD and other agencies, the ADL Initiative encourages collaboration, facilitates interoperability, and promotes best practices for using distributed learning.
