The U.S. Army’s Project Manager Training Devices (PM TRADE) and Product Manager Tactical Training Systems (PdM TTS) awarded a joint software development contract with the U.S. Marine Corps’ Project Manager Training Systems (PM TRASYS) on Jan. 30.
The agreement continues development of the Targetry Range Automated Control & Recording II, or TRACR II software baseline, which serves as the software foundation for automated range control and target operations.
Under the joint effort, the TRACR II baseline will be implemented across all Army Future Army System of Integrated Targets (FASIT) ranges as well as Marine Corps PM TRASYS-managed ranges, creating a shared framework between the two services.
By standardizing the software, the Army and Marine Corps aim to provide a consistent interface and user experience for personnel who manage and operate live-fire training ranges. Officials expect the common system to simplify training for range operators and maintainers while improving compatibility across installations.
The partnership reflects a coordinated approach to software modernization and lifecycle management. Leaders said aligning requirements and development efforts will reduce duplication, lower long-term costs and accelerate the fielding of new capabilities.
The partnership supports broader modernization efforts to streamline acquisition and enhance readiness through more integrated training systems. Using a shared TRACR II baseline is intended to ensure future updates and enhancements can be implemented in parallel, keeping Army and Marine Corps range capabilities aligned.
