The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) was officially retired during a ceremony at Fort Eustis, paving the way for the U.S. Army Transformation and Training Command (T2COM), Sept. 26.
The establishment of T2COM, set to officially activate Oct. 2 in Austin, Texas, follows Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll’s Army Transformation Initiative, which is designed to accelerate transformation and adjust force structure to support modernization and future readiness.
TRADOC oversaw training, doctrine and leader development for 52 years. The retirement ceremony included a presentation of flags representing TRADOC’s subordinate commands and the casing of TRADOC colors by Commanding Gen. Gary M. Brito and Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond S. Harris.
Gen. Randy A. George, Army chief of staff, presided over the ceremony and highlighted TRADOC’s role throughout the service. George said even though the command has been retired, its impact on the Army will endure.
“Every Soldier in our formation has passed through TRADOC and has been trained, developed and impacted by people in this command,” George said. “They learn what right looks like at TRADOC and carry those habits and lessons with them to their formations.”
Following George’s remarks, Brito took the podium to highlight TRADOC’s accomplishments over the years and reflect on his time in the command. He noted the talent across the formation and how the team consistently delivered for the Army despite challenges.
During his time as the 18th TRADOC commanding general, Brito led multiple initiatives in support of the greater Army, including the establishment of the Future Soldier Preparatory Course, updates to the Holistic Health and Fitness initiative and the expansion of data literacy training.
“TRADOC drove change like no other Army institution. I am very proud of all you have done,” Brito said. “Although these cased colors close one chapter, you will be an integral part of the next chapters yet to be written.”
