JAIC Vision

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) is the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center of Excellence that provides a critical mass of expertise to help the Department harness the game-changing power of AI. To help operationally prepare the Department for AI, the JAIC integrates technology development, with the requisite policies, knowledge, processes and relationships to ensure long term success and scalability.

JAIC Acquisition and Contracting Services

AI – DELIVERY

DoD must quickly and repeatedly identify, acquire, and operationalize critical AI technologies from traditional and non-traditional companies. This approach must solve the unique and complex challenges associated with AI development. “Tradewind” will provide Other Transaction Authority (OTA) Agreements and a supporting business process to work with non-traditional companies and guide DoD through the AI-tailored agile delivery process, from ideation to transition.

AI – TEST and EVALUATION

DoD lacks the ability to rapidly order third-party T&E services to address the unique complexities of developing responsible AI solutions. The AI–T&E vehicle will offer multiple-award Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPAs) for rapid orders of conflict-of-interest-free T&E and independent verification & validation services tied to the unique nature of AI and responsible AI testing.

AI – DATA

Many DoD organizations suffer from the AI “data problem” associated with data collection, cleansing, and standardization. “Data Readiness for AI Development (DRAID)” will offer multiple-award Basic Ordering Agreements (BOAs) for rapid ordering of data services to address common DoD data issues and make DoD data “AI Ready”.

AI – DEMO TESTING

As AI requirements become more complex, there is greater demand for a “try-before-buy” capability to allow for “demo testing” of existing AI solutions. “TryAI” will use a merit-based Commercial Solutions Opening (CSO) approach to ordering demos of innovative commercial solutions leveraging both funds or access to data to enable a more robust DoD-wide market intelligence capability.

AI – TALENT

Highly-qualified AI advisory and assistance support (A&AS) is a scarce commodity, and many DoD organizations need assistance to help them craft AI requirements and build AI solutions. The AI A&AS Talent vehicle will provide multiple-award BPAs so DoD customers can procure A&AS contractor support with the necessary skills and experience to help them achieve their AI goals.

JOINT COMMON FOUNDATION (JCF)

The JCF is a secure cloud-based AI development and experimentation environment that delivers critical tools and capabilities to support the DoD’s pursuit of an AI-ready force.

MOVING FORWARD

OUR PRIORITIES:

  • Deliver AI-enabled capabilities that address key missions
  • Scale AI’s impact across DoD through a common foundation
  • Cultivate a leading AI workforce
  • Engage with commercial, academic, and international allies and partners
  • Lead in military ethics and AI safety

OUR CONCERNS:

  • Workforce Training, Development & Recruitment
  • Data Accessibility, Tools, Data Sharing & Information Security
  • Pace of innovation and market dynamics related to commercial and Gov’t environment in AI/ML and related fields
