The Central Florida Tech Grove hosted the digital information session, “Enhancing the Navy Acquisition Process Using AI/ML,” on Sept. 11 for an upcoming prize challenge it is conducting on behalf of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD).

Robin Wieckhorst, NAWCTSD director of acquisition management, and Greg Dougherty, NAWCTSD director of procurement and chief of the contracting office, presented the information on the prize challenge that will conclude this December during the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) showcase.

The objective of this challenge is to speed up the acquisition process using machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). According to NAWCTSD’s problem statement, significant variability exists between the time and effort necessary to perform a technical evaluation, as well as the quality of the results. NAWCTSD seeks to identify alternative solutions using automation that would result in well-supported technical evaluation with consistent quality, while lowering the demands for time and effort.

Participants must register no later than Oct. 11, and the submission deadline is Oct. 25. Three finalists will demonstrate their solutions at I/ITSEC 2024, and contest officials will announce the winners of the cash prizes.
