Passionate, committed, and mentor are some of the superlatives used by NSA Orlando Commanding Officer Captain Steven Nakagawa in his letter of nomination for Selina Vik for NAVAIR’s Women of Color Career Achievement Award.
Vik, who has more than 29 years of federal service currently, serves as the Division Head for the Training Division at NAWCTSD. Her career in federal service began in 1984 when she served as a purchasing agent for the Air Force. Known for her professionalism and technical expertise, Vik has become NAWCTSD’s go to person in the command for answers.
“I know people are looking up to me to be a role model. Winning this award gives me an opportunity to reach out to others in the command who look like me and tell them that they can do the same thing,” said Vik
With an extensive federal career, Vik refers to a quote from John Wesley as inspiration for dealing with the rigors of federal service.
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you can,” sited VIk. “That’s my motto and as long as I’m here, not just with the Department of Defense, but on this earth, that’s the motto I live by.”
