Vice Admiral David Dunaway, Commander, Naval Air Systems Command, addressed employees of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division and Naval Support Activity Orlando on May 9 at the Town Hall Hall. He discussed his vision and priorities for NAVAIR during a time of contracting defense budgets. “It costs about $16,000 an hour to fly a plane for training,” he explained while addressing how modeling and simulation products from Orlando help increase military proficiency at a lower cost to the taxpayer. He shared that state of the art in modeling and simulation can be used for high end training which will save funds for other priorities. Calling NAWCTSD the “center of excellence in the world for training systems,” he challenged the team to think about innovation daily and to exercise leadership at all levels, including “leading from behind.” Following his remarks he answered questions from the workforce.
