INITIATIVES

The Gains in Education of Math and Science (GEMS) summer program at the U.S. Army Simulation and Training Technology Center (STTC) in Central Florida inspires students to take the challenge and explore the high-wage MS&T careers found within their communities. Together with STARBASE collaborators, we work closely with subject matter experts across careers in the MS&T industry and near-peer-mentors who help engage campers with their previous GEMS experiences.

Science:

  • Physics: Motion and Force

  • Fluid Mechanics: Buoyancy

  • Chemistry: Building Blocks and Properties of Matter

  • Science Explorations: Forms of Energy

Technology:

  • Current and Emerging Technology

  • Applying Technology

Engineering:

  • Engineering Design Process

  • 3D Computer Aided Design

  • 3D Printing

Mathematics:

  • Geometry: Coordinate Planes, Longitude, and Latitude

  • Measurements: Volume, Mass, and Distance

  • Data Analysis: Graphing Data, Finding Percents, Decimals
