Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) continued its support of STEM; organizing and sponsoring a summer robotics workshop for teachers, June 27-29 at Milwee Middle School, entitled “Making Robotics Fun for Middle Schoolers.”
NAWCTSD Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) organizers collaborated with two Seminole County Public School robotics teachers in developing and delivering this workshop.
Twenty-eight teachers from seven Florida counties — Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Flagler, Volusia and Brevard — attended this workshop. Topics covered by the workshop included the Engineering Design Process; designing, building and programming robots; ways to teach building and programming; classroom management; developing a robotics curriculum; as well as resources and lesson plans. This effort was funded by Office of Naval Research through their STEM program.
