October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month
TOPICS & CATEGORIES
This month marks the 11th annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center. The goal of this month is raising awareness about cyber security and increasing the resiliency of the nation in the event of a cyber incident. It is focused on engaging and educating both the public and private sector partners through events and initiatives.
Team Orlando also continues to focus its attention on cyber security issues and began a group in May 2012 to meet regularly to discuss what each of the members are doing, and how they can come together and leverage the work being achieved by each.
“The Team Orlando Cyber Working Group continues to collaborate on research as well as cyber training,” said Bill Hopkinson, Joint Training Integration and Evaluation Center. “For example, the U.S. Army Simulation and Training Technology Center, through their Risk Reduction Test bed, is exploring cyber modeling, and Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division is developing cyber training capability through the continued development of the Network Effects Simulation System (NE2S).”
While cyber security is certainly a top priority for members of Team Orlando, as well as other military and government entities and the business sector, the Department of Homeland Security is using this month to remind us that the internet is part of everyone’s life.
Their website notes that “Cybersecurity is one of our country’s most important national security priorities, and we each have a role to play – cybersecurity is a shared responsibility.”
The DHS has been highlighting different topics throughout the month, and this week showcases what emerging and established businesses can do to protect their organization, customers, and employees. Visit the Department of Homeland Security website to learn more.
